The Cherokee County Health Department Preparedness Outreach Team  has developed an Influenza Response Plan in case of a worldwide influenza outbreak – a flu pandemic.  Planning for a pandemic flu is not just a government issue.  Residents have a responsibility to prepare themselves and their families.  This web site will give you resources to help you understand influenza and how to prepare for an outbreak.

What is a pandemic?
A global outbreak of an infectious disease.

Three prerequisites for the start of a pandemic:
1.
A new influenza virus is introduced to which humans have little   to no immunity
2.
This new virus must be able to replicate in humans and cause disease
3.
New virus must be able to efficiently transmit itself from one human to another

**Numbers one and two of the prerequisites have taken place**
